About This Game

World-famous red-haired adventurer Adol Christin awakens in the unfamiliar land of Celceta, remembering nothing more than his own name. Bereft of his past, Adol explores the town he happened to wander into, searching for any clues at all to his identity. Joined by a thief who claims to have spent some time at his side these past weeks, the young adventurer helps rescue doomed miners from a collapse – an act which ingratiates him to the local Romun Army general. Impressed with their skills, the pair is enlisted to explore the Great Forest of Celceta and map its vast expanses – a task which many have attempted in the past, but from which none have ever returned alive.

Eager to unravel the mystery of his past and the cause of his predicament, Adol sets off with his new-old thief friend, Duren, to chart the untamed wilderness that claimed his memories. Along the way he meets numerous other individuals who seem to have encountered him before, and must carefully determine who among them can be trusted.

Developer Nihon Falcom originally revisited the land and characters of Japanese cult favorite Ys IV in 2012 with Ys: Memories of Celceta on the PlayStation Vita, and the game found its way to North America the following year. Now, this re-envisioning moves from the small screen to PC monitors, with a bevy of updates and enhancements to fully take advantage of its new platform.

Featuring a unique take on the party-based combat system that’s come to define modern Ys titles, as well as one of the largest and most varied overworlds in the series’ long and illustrious history, Ys: Memories of Celceta brings a greater sense of adventure to the Ys universe than ever before, with this PC iteration serving as the definitive version of one of the franchise’s most pivotal entries.

Key Features

  • Fully Enjoy the Land of Celceta with a Host of PC Enhancements
This remaster comes with a wide range of HD resolutions, fixed framerates up to 120 fps with the option to unlock the framerate altogether, fully customizable control bindings, fully integrated mouse support, and more!

  • Explore One of the Most Expansive Locales in the Series’ History
The overworld of Celceta metes out battle and exploration in equal measure, accompanied by a robust mapping system with customizable waypoints and clear, detailed icons that aid the journey of Adol and company through this mysterious new land where enigmas and obstacles wait around every bend.

  • Experience a Crucial Cornerstone of Ys Lore
The events that occur over the course of Ys: Memories of Celceta’s lengthy campaign serve as some of the most important and far-reaching in the franchise, yet remain entirely self-contained so even series newcomers can fully enjoy the story.

  • Throw Down the Gauntlet in Time Attack and Boss Rush Modes
Fan-favorite Time Attack mode returns, complete with its ultimate Boss Rush challenge, pitting Adol alone against implacable foes or allowing for full-on party combat to keep the battle going well after the main story has been completed. Steam leaderboards have been implemented as well, accessible and viewable even in-game to see how you stack up against other Celcetan boss-slayers around the world!

First, you find the hidden village! Then, you find the SECRET hidden village! Then, you find the SECRET secret hidden village!

AND. YOU'LL. NEVER. GUESS. WHAT. HAPPENS. NEXT.. Excellent port of a great game. Runs very well with a tonne of graphics options and lighting settings to suit your setup and personal preferences. JP voices (battle grunts and a few one liners) not included but it's a simple copy/paste of the files once you acquire them.. Good Game but also annoying!

I'm getting too old for the RPG genre, since I'm more interested in the combat than story at this age, so I'm going to judge it pretty hard from my experience.

1. I see how the YS series is progressing and I like how they improved on some mechanics from the previous versions but I'm also seeing some issue that calls for concern like the rock, paper, scissor action between the characters. I for one don't like the idea of having teamates to control or assist you on the adventure, too many things going on at once which distracts and forces me to spam without even taking notice anymore. I'm not sure if this make sense but the combat feels more quanity than quality.

2. I felt the dialogue should of been toned down bit and some of the cut scene's should of been removed after one sequence.
How many times do you need to see a short sequence of activating a pillar or stepping on a floor switch?

3. Some of the quest felt dull and the Item crafting or synthesizing was a waste of time.

I mostly hold "YS:Orgin" as one of the most regarded title in the series, but this game has its moments of fun especially when you get to play the boss trials in New GAME+.. Amazing game and an amazing port by XSeeD.

--STORY--
Ys: Memories of Celceta is an HD remake of Ys 4, and thus chronologically it's in the middle of the storyline for the Ys series. In it's own self-contained bubble, the story of Celceta isn't anything grand. Unlike some other Ys games, Celceta's story merely has its own story and goes with it instead of adding any grand expansion to the Ys world's lore. However, this doesn't mean it's a bad story, the story is very fun and has it's own unique twists that are nice to experience, especially near the final phase of the game.

In order to completely appreciate Celceta's story it is recommended to play previous released Ys titles as it makes lore nods and references which made the Ys fan in me go "Oh wow that's just like ____!" and so forth. It's not mandatory, but it adds a lot to the experience.

--GAMEPLAY--
The Ys series is known for it's fast, skill-based action-packed gameplay and Falcom did a great job here. Ys Celceta builds off of the Party-Based System which was first introduced in Ys Seven back in 2009. Adol is not the sole playable character, but instead one of many as you'll pick up several playable characters with their own unique styles of combat. Each character has their own set of skills that you can map to the skill buttons, and they learn several more skills as you continue playing. Skills can combo off of one another and depending on how skilled you are you can crate some nifty combos.

Furthermore, Ys Celceta has a very fun dodge/block mechanic that reminds me of Bayonetta. If you dodge at the right time, time will slow down allowing you to get more hits in, and if you block at the right time you nullify damage and deal critical damage for a certain period of time, it's very skill-based is a shining point of the game's gameplay. Overall it's extremely fluid and fun.

My only complaint about the gameplay is its use of items. There are items for pretty much any status effect and you can stack wayyyy too many HP potions which can trivialize the game, assuming you farm the money to buy that many pots to begin with. So I suggest limiting yourself if possible.

--OTHER TIDBITS--
Ys Celceta can run at 60 FPS if your rig can handle it, it has a lot of graphic customizable options that will also let lower-end systems play it (like mine, lol).

You can save virtually anywhere in this game which makes it extremely friendly to play in short or long bursts alike.

The voice acting is pretty good as you have a lot of talented VAs like Bryce Papenbrook, Cristina Vee, Wendee Lee, and so forth.

The music is simply stunning, Falcom is known for their music and it really shines here.

And the graphics while not the best are
