The Battlestar Galactica ->>->>->>

Original Title: Battlestar Galactica

Genge: Action,Adventure,Drama,Sci-Fi

When an old enemy, the Cylons, resurface and obliterate the 12 colonies, the crew of the aged Galactica protect a small civilian fleet - the last of humanity - as they journey toward the fabled 13th colony, Earth.
The second war against the Cylons is over, and The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed. Now Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galatica and President Laura Roslin lead a ragtag fleet of refugees in a supposed search for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many, which compound an already difficult situation. In addition to the Cylons hunting and attacking the fleet in space and their infiltrator units carrying out sabotage--even as their former unwitting pawn, Gaius Baltar, helps in the hunt for them while hiding both his own guilt and the strange presence that haunts his every thought--the fleet also faces internal political conflict in which the rabble-rousing figure Tom Zarek is merely the loudest dissenting voice, not to mention recurring shortages of food, water, and even oxygen. In the midst of these trials, however, clues begin to appear to suggest that Adama's bluff about finding Earth might hold more truth than anyone could have guessed.
contains spoiler about the miniseries

The Cylon Aron Doral said, in the miniseries that the Battlestar Galactica had to use old technology and non-networked computers so Cylons could'nt hack in to the network and interfere.

He specifically stated that they had to use cordless phones because the cylons could pick up the radio waves and eavesdrop on their plans.

remember the first battle where the vipers loose control because the cylons disable their fly-by-wire systems? going back in time because the cylons are too far ahead.

and remember the long list of the malfunctions the other battlestars got before they were destroyed? thats why they need old tech.

Dr. Gaius Baltar eventually has to remove the navigational systems from the battlestar because the cylons curls hack it.

and Tyrol had to remove the fly-by-wire system in the vipers so they could go up against Raiders.

Also, do you think a Civilization containing a few thousand people could have high tech? Wow, rarely have I seen/read so many extreme comments on a show. I personally disagree with both sides. BSG has flaws, no doubt about it. Some episodes were boring, some events hardly plausible and some things just completely stupid. But you could say the same about almost every SF show that has been aired up to now... I have seen much worse/ridiculous errors in Star Trek than in BSG.

To me the show is overall enjoyable because: 1. I like the rougher style of the show. It is a nice dark change in the genre that has lately bored me with Stargate, Star Trek and other shows that were just too predictable or too political correct. In BSG you are never completely sure if everything evolves as you expect it (there ARE exceptions in some episodes, of course). I almost never was bored.

2. I do not agree with those who do not like the actors. I think most of them are doing a great job.

3. Starbuck and Tigh. Booom. Both of the undergo some real development during the show and to me it was pretty believable.

4. The effects. I love the design of the new BSG a lot (nevertheless I still think the original looked awesome, too). And: finally someone who (after Babylon 5) takes heed to the fact that objects in space could move/sound differently... :-) 5. I would never compare it to the original... and why should I? It is a totally different show.

What I really do not like: 1. Too many "human" Cylons. The overuse of the human Cylons somehow annoys me. I love the idea of the machines evolution into "men"... but they are sometimes just a bit too human and too little "robotical". The robots look great, so why not show them more frequently? 2. Apollo/Bamber. As much as I like the "new" Starbuck. The new Apollo sucks. Too many mood-changes in to little time for this pretty young mans face. The clean officer, the fat commander, the good husband, the adulterer. That's just a little too much for one character... and obviously one actor.

3. Some episodes/plots are just too lengthy. But that is also a question of personal taste.

My personal conclusion is: I enjoy this show a lot more than I enjoyed DS9, Voyager or Stargate Atlantis. It entertains me and is far from being boring. Therefore I can ignore the few flaws that are undeniably present and just keep on enjoying it until the producers decide differently.

And I still do not understand why people get so extreme over it...
Yes, although it's producers call it a "reimagined" series, due to some slight differences. A battlestar is a very lage spaceship, kind of a cross between a battleship and an aircraft carrier. Cylons are humanoid robots created by mankind as servants and laborers. Eventually, they rebelled and declared war on their human masters. Miniseries - This 3 hour miniseries acts as a pilot for the weekly series and introduces the characters and situations.

Season 1 - Contains 13 episodes.

Season 2 - Contains 20 episodes.

Season 3 - Contains 20 episodes.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor - This 2 hour TV movie ( officially the first two episodes of Season 4 ) takes place during Season 2, with flashbacks to the miniseries and earlier, but should be viewed here.

Season 4, Part 1 - Contains 10 episodes ( also known as "Season 4.0" on DVD ).

Season 4, Part 2 - Contains 10 episodes ( also titled "Season 4.5" or "The Final Season" on DVD )

Battlestar Galactica : The Plan - This is a post-series prequel TV movie which depicted selected events of the miniseries and series from the Cylons point of view.

There are also two spin-off prequels:

Caprica - A 19 episode prequel series set 58 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica. The series deals with the creation of the Cylons, and stars Eric Stoltz as Daniel Greystone, creator of the Cylons, and Esai Morales as Joseph Adama, father of Battlestar's William Adama. Released on DVD ( and Blu-ray in certain territories ).

Battlestar Galactica : Blood & Chrome - A 2 hour prequel movie that is set during the first Cylon War, 40 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica and around 18 years after Caprica. The story follows a young William Adama ( future commander of the Galactica ) as a new recruit in the Colonial Fleet, and shows his first experience of battling the Cylons. Released on DVD and Blu-ray. Yes, the miniseries acts as a pilot, and sets up all of the events, characters, and themes of the series. If you start with episode S01E01, you will be very confused!
